Product description

Pushing the limits of headset technology, the Voyager PRO is the most advanced noise-canceling Bluetooth headset available. Two noise-canceling microphones on a boom, AudioIQ? technology with its adaptive 20-band equalizer, and three layers of WindSmart technology ensure that you hear every word and that your voice is heard clearly despite the noise around you.

Featuring the next-generation AudioIQ² digital signal processing (DSP) technology, the Plantronics Voyager Pro delivers superior noise and wind cancellation as well as rich, natural inbound audio so you can hear and be heard clearly in virtually any noisy environment--from windy sidewalks to hectic airports. This comfortable, behind-the-ear headset features two noise-canceling mics on a boom, AudioIQ² technology with its adaptive 20-band equalizer, and three layers of WindSmart technology. The pivoting mic boom lets you wear the headset on either ear and optimize the position of the two microphones. An automatic voice prompt alerts you to battery and mute status. It provides up to six hours of continuous talk time and five days of standby from single charge.

AudioIQ² and WindSmart Technologies
While other headsets deliver noise cancellation at the expense of overall audio quality, Voyager Pro's AudioIQ² technology and unique adjustable dual-microphone boom provide the advantage of capturing your voice close to your mouth so the AudioIQ² technology can more effectively remove ambient noise, while still maintaining the natural sound of your voice.

With its finely tuned adaptive 20-band equalizer, AudioIQ² makes you sound like you're in the same room as your caller, not miles apart. To achieve this, AudioIQ² makes use of two microphones--one that's focused on your speech and the other that picks out distracting background sounds, such as road hum and construction noise. It then compares the data from the two mics and eliminates the unwanted sounds, leaving your unique voice free to be heard clearly and naturally, as it was meant to be.

The dual microphones are also stacked with three layers of WindSmart technology. Stainless steel mic screens, acoustic fabrics, and an electronic filter in the mic circuitry--all aggressively block intrusive wind noise. The adjustable boom, which allows you to wear the headset on either ear, positions the mics where they can best capture your voice, further enhancing the sound quality.

The Voyager Pro features a soft silicone ear tip that's ideal for acoustics and an ergonomic fit; a durable, flexible rubber that's suitable for continuous skin contact; and even weight distribution across multiple touch points to help avoid fatigue.
Engineered for Comfort and Your Mobile Lifestyle
The Plantronics Voyager Pro endured 24 rounds of human factors testing to perfect the design for all-day wearing, comfort, and stability. The behind-the-ear wearing style is perfectly counterbalanced so weight is distributed evenly, rendering it virtually weightless when worn. The Voyager Pro ear tip is made of soft silicone for an optimal fit and features a "sound channel" that helps distribute audio evenly to the ear.

Designed with the mobile professional-user in mind, it includes easily accessible power, volume and mute buttons and features voice prompts for low battery warnings and mute status. Finally, the lithium polymer battery provides up to six hours of continuous talk time and five days of stand-by time, exceeding the talk and standby times of most mobile phones.

« Great sound; quirky user interface »
Just received this headset and have been using it for a couple of weeks. The sound is great; no quibbles about that. But some other aspects of the design could use improvement. The user interface is inconsistent and hard to master; every single button has multiple functions and they do different things in different situations (when there's no call, when a call is coming in, after a call has been established, when the headset has been out of range of the phone). The chart of functions in the manual is poorly arranged and doesn't group them according to the situations in which they apply, making this headset a challenge to learn.

Audible feedback is also inconsistent. Some of it consists of tones (for example, rising and falling sequences of tones when you turn the headset on and off). There are also a few voice prompts, but only for rare situations (confirmation of muting and unmuting the microphone and low battery warnings during a call). Why not voice prompts for other things? Also, some feedback that really should come via audio (for example, querying the battery level rather than being warned it's running low during a call) comes only via the two-color LED on the back. Why? There's just no rhyme or reason to it.

Plantronics really ought to rethink the functions of the controls, prompts, and LEDs to make them more consistent and easier to remember and use. It'd be easy for them to do this as a firmware upgrade, assuming that the electronics inside are flash-able.

The headset also has a micro-USB jack for charging (and perhaps for other purposes such as firmware upgrades? The manual doesn't say) which is left open when you're not charging the battery. Since one of the main functions of a Bluetooth headset is to keep your hands free while you work, there should be a plug or a cover for this to keep dirt, dust, and water from getting in.

Finally, this is a tough headset to use with glasses. I normally wear contact lenses, but wear sunglasses when I work outdoors (which is exactly when I need the headset). The sunglasses, which are equipped with a cord to keep them around my neck when I take them off, constantly knock the headset out of my ear. (I'm looking at putting a tether on the headset, too, for this reason.)

Overall: I love the sound, but now that they've gotten that right, I would really like to see Plantronics pay more attention to other aspects of the design in future models.

    « Simply the best »
I personally feel the Plantronics Voyager headsets are the best for voice quality, background noise reduction, AND BEING ABLE TO HEAR THE CALLER. :-) With this devices you can achieve all 3 with excellent battery life. This device replaced my Voyager 510, because I thought I had lost it. People are asking if I have a new phone or something the improvement is that significant.

As for the reviewer with facial hair issues, that must be quite a growth you've got going. I wear a beard from time-to-time and have had no issues. I would say if you keep your beard trimmed, then you will be fine. :-)

What would make it better? This is the largest headset out there, so be prepared for that...but I will take functionality over form every time.

    « Can't beat the sound »
I'm extremely satisfied with the reception and especially how clear my voice comes across to others. Yes, the unit is somewhat fragile feeling but it's the best sounding of the three that I've owned.

    « Best Quality Product »
Sound quality is the best I have heard, coming in and going out are both excellent. People are not aware that I am using it. It's light weight, I forget most days that I have it on. The price is worth quality. If this one breaks, I'll get another one just like it. I work for a major communications corporation and have used Plantronics products for years and never thought about using their products for personal use. Glad I did.
